As the world transitions to renewable energy, the global economy will become more dependent on weather than at any point since the Industrial Revolution. And due to climate change, the weather that our future economy is tied to will be drastically different from the weather we’ve historically experienced. This means that managing weather-based risk, and weather-based variability is the number #1 challenge facing the energy grid.
Sunairio’s mission is to disrupt weather prediction as we know it to build the most advanced platform for valuing, managing, and operating renewable energy. Instead of relying on physics-based weather models that are bias-prone and slow, we use machine learning and advanced statistics to generate high-fidelity simulations of future weather risk–and we do this on multi-year timescales at hourly (or less) resolution. We work with renewable energy project developers, storage operators, energy buyers, energy suppliers, portfolio managers, traders, and utilities to deliver actionable insights into the hardest energy problems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Business Development will be responsible for all aspects of sales, marketing, and corporate partnerships for enterprise software and analysis services within a market segment or geography (to be determined based on applicant’s experience and Sunairio’s go-to-market strategy). These responsibilities include:
- Identifying, originating, and qualifying a new business pipeline of companies throughout the renewable energy lifecycle
- Managing, customizing, and optimizing a customer relationship management (CRM) platform
- Identifying business-essential KPIs and reporting on them at regular intervals
- Closing deals with total contract value in excess of $1 MM/yr
- Cultivating relationships with key stakeholders in the energy and renewable energy sectors such as major utilities, international renewables developers, and commodities traders
- Researching market trends and their potential impact on Sunairio’s business
- Recruiting and managing a team of salespeople
- Generating content for social media and blog posts that demonstrate Sunairio’s value proposition
- Working closely with the Sunairio CEO and CTO to ensure product development activities meet customer requirements
- Translating feedback from customer calls into suggestions for new products and features that fill gaps
- Maintaining relationships with existing customers to guarantee user satisfaction and customer success
- Documenting case studies based on successful customer projects
- Representing Sunairio at industry events and conferences
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A passion for building new solutions that drive the energy transition
- 4+ years of experience in enterprise software sales/business development, with a proven ability to originate deal flow and execute transactions
- BA/BS (Master’s or MBA desirable)
- Experience selling software services for analytics, risk management, project finance or financial trading
- Professional experience in energy, weather, or climate tech sectors
- A creative problem-solver with outstanding communication and organizational skills and a commitment to excellence
- Intellectual curiosity
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
